Aviation Vibration Analyst

Job Description Summary:

  • The Aviation Vibration Analyst provides critical technical expertise to the U.S. Coast Guard's Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) Vibration Program, supporting fleet-wide aircraft health, safety, and operational readiness. This role performs advanced vibration diagnostics on rotary and fixed-wing aircraft using ISO Category II (or higher) techniques, including FFT spectrum analysis, phase diagnostics, HUMS data interpretation, and Aircraft Diagnostic Vibration Management Systems (ADVMS). The analyst identifies mechanical and electrical faults such as bearing failures, rotor issues, resonance, and gear defects, manages vibration data systems, and provides technical reports to support maintenance teams, OEMs, and engineering staff across all USCG aircraft types. The role also contributes to technical order development, dynamic testing, and participates in ground runs and flight operations to ensure aircraft safety and reliability.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Initiate CG-22s, Product Quality Deficiency Report (PQDRs), regular and message TCTOs related to the ALC Vibration Program.
  • Provide technical input to the Vibration Program Manager to assist all Air Stations, ALC, Headquarters Units, ATTC and applicable OEMs.
  • Analyze data received from Air Stations, ALC, Headquarters Units, and ATTC for possible vibration concerns within five (5) business days of receiving data from the Government.
  • Manage Helitune User database by establishing user accounts and setting up permissions within the database.
  • Manage the RT-Vision database for all aircraft, gearbox and engine types. (configuration and structure).
  • Use and manage the Aircraft Diagnostic Vibration Management System (ADVMS).
  • Assist Vibration Program Manager in the following areas:
  • Test prototype analysis equipment.
  • Provide onsite vibration program technical support.
  • Test vibration sensors using DI-811 or equivalent test equipment.
  • Configure software and program on various vibration analysis data collection equipment.
  • Develop test plans and perform data collections for unusual aircraft vibration programs.
  • Provide instruction on operation and testing procedures for various types of aircraft data collection equipment.
  • Provide logistics support for Government loaner equipment and accessories and coordinate repairs to fleet-wide vibration analysis equipment.
  • Perform aircraft, airframe and driveline vibration analysis. Prepare summaries and reports in support of various engineering offices.
  • Perform advanced level rotor track and balance and vibration analysis and propeller dynamic balance and vibration analysis on multiple airframes types.
  • Develop and write complex technical orders independently including schematics, drawing and figures.
  • Conduct market research for program support equipment and related maintenance services to collect and assemble information including, but not limited to, technical data packages, price, availability, quality initiatives in relation to requirements, source approval and validation process, vendor capabilities. Market research may include assisting during site surveys to verify information previously assembled.

Requirements:
  • 5 years' experience in vibration spectrum analysis or certified as a Vibration Analyst ISO Category II (or higher), IAW ISO standard 18436-2.
  • 4 years of experience in performing and/or supervising the data collection process
  • Providing vibration signature analysis within a structured program using pattern recognition of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Spectra
  • Apply phase analysis techniques to diagnose mechanical and electrical machine faults
  • Able to detect the following conditions: resonance, rolling element bearing faults, plain bearing faults, rotor rubs, flow-induced vibration, gears faults, electrical problems with AC induction motors, DC motor vibration, and soft foot/distorted frames
  • Able to provide verbal and written general reports of machine condition evaluations
  • 3 years of experience diagnosing aircraft related discrepancies using aircraft Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS).
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining rotating aircraft systems such as: propellers, turbine fans, helicopter rotor systems; gas turbine engines, gearboxes, pumps, generators, alternators, flight controls, etc.
  • Able to provide assistance to all USCG maintenance entities without regard to aircraft type.
  • Experience locating, monitoring, and evaluating other services' and OEM technical change directives within maintenance, engineering, and logistics disciplines for applicability to aircraft for support systems for direct or indirect applicable to the applicable aircraft program and provide justified recommended action.
  • 4 years experience developing and writing complex technical orders independently including schematics, drawing and figures.
  • Experience developing and writing MPCs including schematics and figures.
  • Experience writing engineering specifications including schematics and figures for the express purpose of documenting approved depot level repairs and processes.
  • 5 years of experience reading and interpreting manufacturer and blue prints and technical drawings and understand engineering specifications to resolve engineering technical questions.
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects that require thorough research and coordination with engineering personnel.
  • Experience providing aircraft technical specifications and support to aircraft dynamic test equipment purchases of new equipment or troubleshooting equipment interface issues within applicable discipline.

Location: On Site- Elizabeth City, NC. Occasional travel when necessary.

Pay Range: $69,000 - $75,000 per year Apply Salary Minimum: 69000Salary Maximum: 75000
