Business Analysis Manager (Finance)

Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Business Analysis Manager to join our Life Sciences and Intermediates business at our Bridgewater, New Jersey or Wilmington, Delaware location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Portfolio Asset Management team. This position will report to Senior Director, Portfolio & Asset Management, Life sciences & Intermediates.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Well-rounded business analysis experience

  • Lead financial evaluation and risk analysis for strategic investment projects (e.g., new plants, expansions, sustainability retrofits).
    • ROI analysis, CAPEX/OPEX evaluations, cost modeling, margin enhancement initiatives
  • Business Case Development: Building investment-grade proposals for manufacturing expansions, digital upgrades, sustainability initiatives.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence: Translating market trends and regulatory shifts into business insights.

2. Cross functional project and change management
  • Drive cross-functional business analysis to support decisions on product line expansions, portfolio rationalization, and asset divestments.
  • Support annual strategic planning cycles and long-term asset planning.
  • Act as a thought partner to BU GMs, providing insights that connect operational realities with financial and strategic goals.
  • Manage project teams for major business transformation initiatives (systems upgrades, operating model redesigns, M&A integrations).
  • Build executive dashboards to track project KPIs, financial metrics, and change initiative success rates.

3. Industry-Specific Knowledge
  • Strategic and analytical leader with experience in the chemicals/heavy manufacturing industry.

4. Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Actively contribute to the organizational goals by taking initiative, executing on goals and focusing on performance and safety
  • Improve the organization capacity and capabilities through building collaborative relationships, optimizing diverse talent and utilizing positive communications and influence with others

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience in Chemicals / Life sciences in Operational roles
  • Strong analytical thinker who can model complex financial scenarios but also translate findings into actionable business insights.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and leading through change.
  • Skilled communicator who can engage from the shop floor to the C-suite.
  • Deep understanding of the chemical/ Life Sciences industry's dynamics, regulatory environment, and capital intensity.
  • Curious, collaborative, and results oriented.
  • Demonstrated responsible and ethical behavior at all times
    • The ability to help the company drive greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions and creating new and different
