Director Tax (Finance)



Job Summary       

The primary function of this role is to oversee tax requirements and planning for company entities in both the United States and Mexico by interpreting applicable tax regulations, ensuring timely and accurate tax filings, and driving compliance with U.S., Mexican, and international tax laws. The role coordinates and manages the work of external providers and consultants and limited Mexico staff.

Job Responsibilities   

  • Oversees the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns in the U.S. and Mexico by coordinating with external tax preparers and consultants
  • Prepares federal, state, and local GAAP and IFRS income tax provisions, including ASC 740, by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information
  • Manages tax accounting related to U.S. states and Mexican jurisdictions, including effective tax rate impacts and deferred tax analysis
  • Evaluates current and potential tax law changes in both countries to determine the impact on compliance and effective tax rate
  • Prepares GAAP and IFRS tax-related financial statements, reports, and records by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Coordinates and manages federal, state, and local tax audits—including income, property, and sales/use taxes—through external advisors
  • Oversees the filing of sales/use and property taxes by managing external service providers, not internal staff
  • Assists in modifying, evaluating, and documenting tax-related internal control procedures
  • Responds to questions and prepares written technical advice for business units
  • Coordinates with and answers inquiries from the parent company's group tax director
  • Maintains professional and technical tax knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects
  • Manages external providers and consultants responsible for tax compliance and reporting activities
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA required
  • 8+ years of related tax experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team or outside consultants 
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and accounting software systems (SAP and BW experience preferred)
  • Proven ability to perform well under pressure and in a high-volume and changing environment
  • Proven ability to excel in a team environment
