Collections Assistant (Education)



SUMMARY
This position involves notifying and/or locating customers with delinquent Consumer accounts, and attempts to secure payment by following the proper and necessary procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
· Sort, scan, and forward correspondence, and general office duties. Must possess computer skills and be proficient in Word and Excel. Must possess excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette.
· Interaction with delinquent customers via telephone, mail and in-person to encourage and effectuate prompt repayment of delinquent loan and overdraft accounts.
· Review of borrowers' loan terms, conditions, payment history and reasons for delinquency.
· Negotiate work-out agreements and payment plans, and counsel borrowers on options available to assist them in avoiding negative credit reporting, repossessions and foreclosures.
· Memorialize all contact, conversations, agreements, collection efforts, actions taken and any additional information as may be appropriate, in borrowers' database in order to effectuate clear and concise communication.
· Work one on one with various departments, branches and entities within and outside of the bank's footprint.
· Assist in compiling and preparing intra-office memorandums and evaluations as requested.
· Prepare civil complaints, attend civil hearings and Sheriff sale's when necessary. Work closely with in-house and outside counsel.
· Prepare repossession orders and follow-up.
· Receive payment and prepare amount paid to customer account for teller posting.
· Utilize various skip tracing methods to locate customers.
· Prepare various reports for internal and various bank committees' review.
· Assist others within the Collections Department when necessary, cross-train to learn all aspects of duties and responsibilities of each member of the collection team, and offer assistance to any bank personnel requesting same.
· Assist and accompany in-house appraisers with monthly inspections as necessary.
· Work on special projects as necessary.
· Compete and participate in continuing education opportunities and complete American Bankers Association courses as required by Somerset Trust Company. Maintain current knowledge of and adhere to the BSA Policy.
· All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, client, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, bonuses, etc.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule fore.
