Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.Performs statistical and mathematical analysis to analyze workforce data including time-series trends, regression analysis and simulation through the application of modeling techniques. Applies techniques to clean and normalize data for analysis to enable comparisons. Conducts internal and external research to collect data and performs workforce analysis on the data sets. Utilizes data mining techniques to optimize decisions related to the Board's talent. Transforms data into actionable information including creating various data visualizations to convey pertinent facts. Groups data findings into logical sequencing to tell a story. Converts insight from data into actionable talent recommendations.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses various analytical and visualization tools (e.g., queries, exports, pivot tables, definitions, visualizations, and data quality assessments) for statistical analysis with guidance.
  • Creates well-defined products (e.g., Tableau Dashboards, presentations, communications, interactive what-if tools) that may require multiple iterations of developing and testing.
  • Transforms data for analysis by using repeatable processes to structure data in specific formats, which may include writing and storing data scripts, developing export, transform and load (ETL) procedures and feature engineering.
  • Participates in drafting recommendations and presentations, tailoring, interpreting, and translating data to and from non-technical audiences and customers as needed, to assist executives in making decisions and taking necessary actions.
  • Creates and runs various Human Resources Information System queries to obtain data sets for analysis.

    Location: The internship is located on site in Washington, DC

    US Citizenship is required. All applicants must be current students, graduating from their program August 2026 or later. Proof of enrollment will be required.
