Vice President, Legal Counsel - Institutional Services (Finance)



Who we are looking for

The State Street Investment Services Legal Team provides advice and counsel in accordance with the highest standards of judgment, integrity and ethical leadership. We strive to deliver strategic solutions to our business colleagues in respect of our global asset manager and owner, insurance company, official institution and central bank clients.

As a Vice President and Legal Counsel, you will join a fast-paced, client-focused team providing support to IS Americas. You will be part of a team focused on supporting a full range of products and services across the asset servicing industry, including custody, accounting transfer agency and fund administration, for mutual fund complexes, asset managers, transfer agents, banks and other institutional clients.

To be successful, you will develop a deep understanding of the Bank's product and service offerings, operational capabilities, culture and vision and regulatory and supervisory landscape in order to serve as a trusted advisor to your business partners, and efficiently identify and resolve complex legal issues. You will need to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal teams, including management and senior executive business leaders, risk and compliance executives.

What you will be responsible for

As Vice President and Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering practical, actionable legal guidance to internal stakeholders
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating asset servicing agreements, disclosures and client communications
  • Advising business partners on legal and regulatory matters to support strategic changes to State Street's business model, including new products and services
  • Analyzing on claims, errors and potential litigation

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited United States law school
  • License to practice in Massachusetts or another state of the United States
  • At least 2-4 years' experience in the corporate department of a major law firm
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and technical legal analysis skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively across multiple levels and functional areas within a large organization
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred

Salary Range:
$130,000 - $205,000 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
