Non-Specs (Architecture)

Job Summary

The Non-Specs supports group leaders in operating cranes and other hoisting machines to lift and move materials, including structural steel, plates, and scrap metal. This role involves performing a variety of physical tasks related to the safe handling of these materials.

Job Responsibilities

• Railroad Car Operations

  • Couple and uncouple railroad cars by releasing air pressure and using small handles to disengage pin backups
  • Operate railroad track switches by gripping the switch handle, stooping, and twisting the torso to move the switch
  • Required force: Torque of 10 to 40 foot/lbs

• Loading and Unloading Rail Cars

  • Walk along flatbed rail cars to cut banding with cutters (14” or 24”)
  • Climb onto steel inside rail cars to assist in unloading
  • Steel is not manually moved

• Loading and Unloading Trucks

  • Climb onto truck beds to attach hooks or clamps to steel for loading
  • Tasks may include reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching

• Handling Crane and Lifting Equipment

  • Affix hooks, buckets, electromagnets, ropes, chains, slings, and other attachments to cranes or lifting mechanisms
  • Handle beam clamps weighing 14-1/2 to 31 pounds and cables/hooks weighing up to 71.2 pounds (with 21.6 pounds of cable)
  • Tasks may require stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.Perform additional assigned tasks as necessary to support crane operations and warehouse activities
  • Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility
  • Demonstrated reliable work history
  • Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
