Lift Operations Supervisor (Transportation)



SUMMARY
The Lift Operations Supervisor is responsible for training, scheduling and supervising the day-to-day functions of the Lift Operations team with guidance and input from the Lift Operations & Access Managers. The Lift Operations Supervisor prepares daily work assignments for Lift Operations staff and leads daily crew meetings to communicate important safety and guest service topics. Collects, reviews and files daily lift logs, training documentation, and other administrative documents according to department procedures. Monitors tool, sign and supply inventories/conditions at all lifts and restocks/repairs items as needed. Daily work tasks are carried out independently with guidance and input from Lift Operations & Access managers. Conducts pre-season and in-season training of Lift Operations staff utilizing department training programs and resources. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Responsible to report to work in appropriate uniform and follow grooming/appearance standards, setting a good example and high standard for other team members.
2. Consistently deliver high-quality guest service, presentation and cleanliness in all phases of Lift Operations.
3. Assists Lift Operations & Access Managers with hiring, motivating, evaluating, and directing staff to ensure safe and efficient Lift Operations. Provide Lift Department employees with training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary to complete their work assignments.
4. Provide leadership, motivation, support and evaluation of direct reports to achieve department and resort goals and objectives.
5. Lead and assist Lift Operators, Lead Lift Operators and Lift Operations Forepersons in the successful completion of their job duties. Provide coaching, training and guidance as required and requested. Fulfill all duties of direct reports as needed.
6. Lead and conduct pre-season and in-season training of Lift Operations staff utilizing department training programs and resources. Participate in updating and revising training materials as needed.
7. Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing ongoing coaching and training to ensure peak performance of Lift Operations staff.
8. Participate in periodic department leadership meetings to discuss department performance and needs.
9. Conduct periodic performance evaluations of direct-report employees, providing constructive feedback utilizing resort performance evaluation resources.
10. Establish, update and communicate weekly work schedules to Lift Operations staff. Facilitate shift change approvals.
11. Arrive to work for early start times to assist with the opening of lifts and operating lifts for Mountain Patrol.
12. Assist Lift Maintenance personnel in the morning pre-operational inspections and start-up procedures.
13. Utilize good judgement and strong safety sense while skiing and/or snowboarding to all lift stations at the resort. Must be able to ski/snowboard at an intermediate level or above.
14. Safely access lift stations during the early morning hours in dark or low-light conditions while snow grooming and morning mountain patrol activities are taking place.
15. Safely operate snowmobiles on designated routes in a variety of weather and snow conditions. Properly follow snowmobile operating procedures and guidelines.
16. Ensure that all mechanical components are functioning properly by checking and performing routine inspections and notifying Lift Maintenance personnel of any abnormalities.
17. Monitor lift loading and unloading area maintenance and notify Lift Operators and Lead Lift Operators of areas that need attention or additional maintenance.
18. Utilize telephones, two-way radios and lift intercom phones to communicate with other lift stations, supervisors, Lift Maintenance personnel and mountain dispatch.
19. Attend and conduct periodic Lead meetings.
20. Ensure Lift Operators are conducting their work in a safe manner and correct unsafe behavior with additional training and coaching.
21. Participate in the incident investigation process by completing incident reports as needed.
22. Maintain a strong understanding of department policies and procedures to guide daily decision-making. Involve the managers to make decisions as needed.
23. Conducts daily responsibilities independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong and frequent communication with Lift Operations & Access Managers.
24. Remove and maintain snow surfaces around lift mazes, loading areas, terminal areas, unloading ramps, and operator stations utilizing a variety of hand and power tools. Common tools include shovels, scoops, rakes, ice picks, pickaxes, power drills, snowblowers, etc.
25. Understand the use of the operator controls, fault displays, and emergency procedures. Be able to communicate fault indications and information to the dispatcher and Lift Maintenance personnel.
26. Notify Lift Maintenance personnel of any abnormal equipment operation.
27. Provide superior service to our guests and fellow employees by greeting, interacting, answering questions and providing resort information.
28. Respond to all guests and employees in a courteous manner and professional manner.
29. Positively contributes to the team effort by assisting other staff as needed.
30. Complete required paperwork to document daily lift operations, including inspection reports, stop logs and checklists.
31. Review, audit and file daily lift logs, employee break logs, and training records according to department procedures.
32. Review, audit and approve employee timesheets while adhering to department budget goals.
33. Perform other tasks as assigned.
34. Remain flexible with work location assignments, hours, and tasks depending on business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY
1. Protect the safety of self-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort's Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
5. Skis within ability level, taking safe and direct routes of travel. Follows Skier's Responsibility Code.
6. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others.
7. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides daily leadership, guidance and assistance to 30-35 Lift Operators, Lead Lift Operators and Lift Operations Forepersons across all lift work areas. Responsible for daily work assignment and performance monitoring of Lift Operations department staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Good communication skills, ability to train, coordinate and oversee the work of others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year of Lead Lift Operator or Lift Maintenance experience, or equivalent. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Intermediate skiing/riding ability required. Minimum 21 years of age. High school graduate or GED required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
High level of communication with coworkers and resort guests. Greet customers congenially and answer various questions about ski trails, weather and snow conditions, lift schedules and riding time, and general information about the resort and area. Read and understand manuals, safety signs, machinery control labels, warning placards and indicator panels as printed.

REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to read, understand and abide by policies, procedures, and training material. Must be able to make decisions within established parameters, seeking guidance from more experienced or supervisory staff when needed, and react quickly to emergency situations.

Must be able to work with a high level of independence while following established department procedures and keeping managers informed of work tasks and needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee will work outside regularly in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work environment includes noise from Motor Rooms of lifts, off-road vehicles and machinery working in the area.
