Senior Client Investment Officer (Finance)
The Senior Client Investment Officer (CIO) is responsible for supporting Northern Trust Asset Management's Not-for-Profit Outsourced Chief Investment Officer practice. The CIO will work with foundations, endowments and other non-profit entities in the development of complex investment programs. Services range from investment policy and asset allocation through open architecture manager search, selection and oversight, portfolio construction, implementation and continuous improvement across traditional and alternative investment strategies. Perform these responsibilities while ensuring alignment with Asset Management strategic initiatives. Assist NFP Sales Team in new business opportunities.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Providing clients with investment program solutions services, developing an understanding of clients' unique needs and coordinating the design, implementation and monitoring of a customized, open architecture, investment program across traditional and alternative investments to meet those needs.
•Communicate with clients and internal team members on a regular basis, anticipating and responding to issues and developments, researching issues and opportunities, developing new ideas, and discussing investment program solutions capabilities.
•Coordination of asset allocation, rebalancing, manager search, portfolio construction and similar analytical exercises working closely with internal teams and team members.
•Coordination with dedicated internal manager research teams across traditional and alternative investments as part of sourcing and monitoring investment managers in and for client investment programs.
•Interpret economic, market and business information in order to recognize, understand and communicate market environment.
•Collaborate in new product development and marketing. Work with product, research, and marketing teams to develop and identify new investment ideas or opportunities.
•Lead investment professional in prospective NFP sales and marketing presentations.
•Cross sells or refers company products and services to existing clients, when appropriate.
•Proactively advise partners of issues that may affect clients/prospects in either a positive or negative way.
•Display a high level of teamwork toward achieving business unit and team goals. Be a positive influence in the group
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
A successful candidate will benefit from having the following knowledge and skills:
•Experienced advisor working with or for foundations, endowments and other non-profit entities; CIO, investment advisor or investment consultant with experience in working with NFPs.
•Extensive knowledge regarding traditional and alternative investments in an open-architecture framework, as well as related issues that affect investments (economy and markets, finance). Skillset usually acquired through related work experience with an advanced degree or certification program typically required to coordinate, develop and provide integrated investment advisory services to sophisticated clients.
•Analytical and problem solving skills are required to understand, coordinate and deliver sophisticated investment program solutions.
•Technology orientation and proficiency is required to coordinate analysis of client portfolios and recommendations for improvements.
•Written and interpersonal presentation skills are important for ongoing client interaction, team engagement and new business participation.
•Innovation; investment solution and/or product development experience.
EXPERIENCE:
A successful candidate will benefit from having the following experience:
•10+ years investment experience including extensive experience with open architecture, alternative investments and endowments, foundations and other NFP entities
•MBA/CFA/CAIA/CIMA or other relevant investment credentials preferred
