Systems Engineer

Arlington, VA

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Systems Engineer who will be part of Thales Air Traffic Control and Digital Aviation Solutions engineering team that is focused on addressing the needs of the aviation industry's push to integrate unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace system. The System Engineer will work closely with the Product Design Authority (PDA) and Integration, Validation, Verification, and Quality (IVVQ) teams to support product development, project execution and data analysis, to enable the safe and efficient integration of drones into our airspace and our communities.

In this position, you will analyze the operational needs, contribute to the analysis of the architectures, services, data, and functions, as well as contribute to the analysis of the major system properties such as safety, security, and human factors in compliance with customer requirements.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Analyze and understand the customer's needs and system life cycle concerns through any means necessary (e.g., advanced studies, simulations, mock-ups, models, prototypes, etc.).
  • Formalizes mission / functional descriptions, architectural design, and requirements in collaboration with the Product Design Authority (PDA).
  • Assembles the elements of the solution in a logical and controlled manner to evaluate the design, behavior, interactions, and performance to confirm that the requirements which the solution has been designed are fulfilled.
  • Prepare system integration, verification, and validation tests plans and release reports to assure and verify that customer requirements are met, and newly implemented features behave as expected. Demonstrates that the solution satisfies the overall approved operational needs, and that the system data package is ready for release for operation and support.
  • Contributes to the Systems Architecture or to the Systems Engineering Management activities. Support formal design reviews and the creation, and delivery of technical Research & Development (R&D) papers / studies.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform data processing and analysis. Support System Operation and Maintenance activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person as defined in applicable law.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Systems, Electrical or Software Engineering, with 1 year of related experience.
  • Good understanding of network and computer troubleshooting techniques.
  • Good understanding of computer systems, including basic Windows and Linux administration.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis methods and tools including either MATLAB or Python. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, C++, Java, SolidWorks.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced team environment. Excellent communication skills. Good organizational and time management skills. Sense of quality and attention to detail. Disciplined and a systematic thinker.

Special Position Requirements

  • Schedule: Either 9/80A - 1st (9hrs Mon-Thu, 8hrs 2nd Fri, Start @ 09:00AM) (United States of America) or USA - 5/40 - 1st (8hrs Mon-Fri) (United States of America).
  • Physical Environment: Office and R&D lab.
  • Travel: Domestic travel approximately 0-10% annually.

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

Total Target Cash (TTC): 84,622.76 - 112,830.34 - 137,200.00 USD Annual

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee's career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company's annual salary budget, the customer's program requirements, and the company's internal equity.
