Dean, School of Adult Studies (Personal Services)



This is a non-tenured, non-ranked administrative faculty position that provides leadership and direction for the programs within the School of Adult Studies.

Qualifications:
1. Master's degree required, doctorate preferred. Graduate work should be in one of the disciplines represented in the SAS, or in a field related to education, leadership, or higher education administration.
2. Management/supervisory experience with experience in a higher education environment working with adult learners preferred.
3. Knowledge and application of adult learning theories.
4. Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures.
5. Strong organizational skills including the ability to collect and organize data.
6. Highly developed interpersonal skills.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, etc.)
8. Experience with integrated institutional database applications
9. A strong commitment to the university's mission, vision, and statement of faith.
10. Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders to achieve university and school goals.

Essential Functions:
1. With oversight of the Provost and assistance of the Administrative Support Specialist and Academic Advisor, oversee the administration of the Adult Studies programs:
a. Schedule courses and update the master calendar and semester calendar; work with Associate Registrar to schedule classroom reservation
b. Develop and process all student course or schedule changes, required course retakes, etc., create revised registration contracts, and keep appropriate records
c. In collaboration with the academic advisor and/or Administrative Support Specialist, track student progress toward maintaining GPA and degree completion requirements
d. Collect, organize, and maintain data related to admissions trends; majors, programs, course, and student learning outcomes, etc. and prepare reports annually and as requested
e. Conduct program reviews and institutional assessment
f. Conduct curriculum evaluations and reviews and work with appropriate stakeholders to make and implement changes as warranted
2. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, orientation and supervision of all adjunct faculty:
a. Ensure the proper credentials, experience, and subject-matter expertise of applicants
b. Post recruitment notices and track applicants
c. Develop, schedule, and carry out orientation activities for all new adjuncts
d. Develop and carry out a routine for evaluating classroom and online performance of adjuncts
e. Receive, review, and distribute all course evaluations to adjunct faculty, meet with faculty to address any concerns with teaching.
f. Ensure faculty compliance with incomplete course, grading, assessment of student learning, student professional development and conduct, academic honesty, and other School and/or program policies and procedures
g. Plan and implement trainings for faculty on institutional and program assessment practices and include faculty in conducting program reviews
h. With assistance of the manager or coordinator, schedule and carry out regular meetings of adjunct faculty
i. Instruct faculty on course design and pedagogies, evaluate course syllabi and instructional practices
3. Provide accountability for students placed on academic warning, probation, or provisional status
a. Ensure compliance with established and published policies.
4. Participate in recruitment, marketing, and promotional activities for new students
5. Engage with local community leaders and industry representatives to advance Adult Studies programming; schedule and chair Community Program Advisory Board meetings
6. Provide supervision for the Academic Advisor and Administrative Support Specialist in planning and executing program activities such as new student orientation, ASL induction ceremonies, etc.
7. Serve on or chair School or program committees as assigned - academic councils, admissions committees, student evaluation or disciplinary committees, ad hoc or task force committees for special projects, etc.
8. Collaborate with program content experts, including faculty Disciplinary Leads, to create dynamic courses and effective program schedules
9. Provide supervision and support for the Adult Studies Academic Advisor and Administrative Support Specialist.
10. Hold regular team meetings
11. Participate with the SAS team in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the School of Adult Studies.
12. Assist in the review of existing, and development of new, policies and procedures to ensure optimal efficiency
13. Assist in the annual review and update of the SU catalog, School and program handbooks, faculty handbook, etc.
14. Represent the School of Adult Studies to the campus and community.
