Description:

Provides assistance and expertise in various areas of research such as calibration of instrumentation, equipment maintenance and repair, preparation of samples for testing, monitoring of safety equipment and procedures, development and fabrication of prototype equipment, recording of test results, and basic analyses of data.

1. Ensures experiments are performed according to specification.
2. May make practical technical recommendations to changes in procedures, equipment, or prototype design.
3. May perform simple and repetitive task.
4. May assist in advanced functions as part of training.
5. Refers questions and problems to higher levels.
6. Immediate supervision is available.

The candidate will be involved in evaluating the role of the immune system in the development of Meibomian gland dysfunction. The candidate is also expected to isolate and maintain primary cells, including corneal epithelial cells, limbal epithelial stem cells, keratocytes, and also maintain established immortalized cell lines, such as immortalized Meibomian gland epithelial cells. The candidate is also expected to carry out ocular surgeries and analysis of the ocular surface in mice. The candidate will also be involved in maintaining the mouse colonies, including animal identification, minimal husbandry and genotyping. Tissue processing skills are required including cryo- and paraffin sectioning. Responsibilities are completed under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

MQ: High School Diploma with 1 year of experience.
