Cloud Architect (Finance)
Overview
We are seeking a full-time Cloud Architect in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for spearheading Garmin's Cloud Services initiatives with opensource cloud technologies, including Openstack and Kubernetes. Key responsibilities include designing deployment architectures for the virtualization platform, cloud native applications platform, and storage and backup solutions to support operations.
Essential Functions
- Designs and deploy virtualization and cloud native platforms for multiple datacenters
- Exercises a significant degree of leadership to deployment projects and feature development which contribute directly to organizational objectives
- Engages with and supports a global team
- Performs reviews of technical design, deployment architectures, operational and
- Works collaboratively with the product owners, application architects and enterprise users to define requirements and new features
- Ensures stable production roll-out of changes made to the platform
- Ensures the changes developed are high quality, meet business and technical requirements and are automated
- Contributes, supports and enforces adherence to architecture roadmaps and development standards
- Leads major deployment projects consisting of multiple components or sub projects which require project planning
- Identifies and implements opportunities for platform improvement around stability, performance, and maintainability
- Serves as a mentor to less experienced IT Software Engineers (Software Engineers 1, 2, & Senior)
- Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
- Demonstrates professional maturity through giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Resolves conflicts with little assistance

- Participates in project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs
- On-call support for platform incidents
- Evaluates new technologies, features, and functions and provides input on broader technology solutions outside of core discipline
- Attends or participates in applicable professional organizations to bring outside knowledge to Garmin
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or another relevant field AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in virtualization and cloud native platforms, including but not limited to Openstack, Kubernetes
- Experience with storage platforms, software and hardware based
- Experience with enterprise networking
- Must demonstrate proficiency and possess the experience necessary to design, enhances and develop virtualization and Cloud Native Platforms
- Demonstrated experience with cloud native and micro services architecture solutions
- Demonstrated experience with version control systems such as Git
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience with automated testing tools and testing procedures
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting
Desired Qualifications
- Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
- Previous experience working with virtualization solutions based on Openstack
- Previous experience working with cloud native solutions based on Kubernetes
- Previous experience with platform deployment automation
- Previous experience with Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Previous experience with SAFe
