Description:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Applied Multimodal Artificial Intelligence at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. This position is part of the Presidential Frontier Faculty Initiative. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Assistant (Tenure-track), or Associate Professor (Tenure-eligible) ranks, with a joint appointment in the Computer Science Department. The rank of the appointment will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

This new hire will complement existing research by bringing expertise in integrating data across modalities such as radiology, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), well-logging tools (resistivity, acoustic, etc.), spectroscopy, biosignals, and wearable health technologies. Specific focus areas include: AI-driven diagnostic tools with transcriptomic image analysis, fusion of multi-sensor data (e.g., resistivity + acoustic + NMR) for real-time subsurface characterization, AI-enabled physiological monitoring using multimodal wearable sensors, federated learning models for decentralized medical and energy data, interpretable deep learning systems for regulatory-compliant healthcare applications. The department is looking for outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2026.

Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or other relevant scientific field at the time of application.
