Database Administrator (Information Technology)



JOB SUMMARY

This position supports critical database applications by maintaining a robust database environment by ensuring data security and availability through database development, monitoring, and effective troubleshooting to enable business initiatives and operational improvements for Colorado PERA's systems. It requires proficiency in data modeling, analysis, design, troubleshooting and process improvement coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively across various IT and business functions.

Our ideal candidate can support our existing complex on-premises database environment then use their expertise to align to our mission of leveraging data as a strategic asset across the organization to better serve our membership.  We are looking for someone that is versatile and is interested in modernizing their data management skills as we further embrace our data cloud strategy. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs database administration tasks including upgrades, patches, user administration, backup/restores
  • Monitors database health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and implements tuning strategies to optimize performance and availability
  • Provides technical leadership on database projects of varying size and difficulty including projects with critical time constraints and/or significant business risks associated
  • Implements data security strategies to safeguard sensitive information
  • Designs efficient, robust and scalable database models based on in depth understanding of business requirements and database structures
  • Conducts regular database audits, ensuring compliance with internal policies

RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE

  • Supports project initiation efforts by assisting in the definition of project scope and the identification/selection of targeted solution(s). Assists in the development of work plans, effort estimates, and delivery timelines
  • Participates in Business Continuity through Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • Collaborates with application teams to optimize database queries and improve application performance
  • Resolves complex systems issues utilizing technical skills and subject matter expertise. Coordinates issue resolution with vendors and/or cross-functional teams.
  • Provides timely and thorough communication regarding issue status/resolution with end-users and other key stakeholders
  • Actively contributes to enhancing systems security posture and investigates security events as necessary
  • Leads database code review sessions and adheres to coding standards and best practices
  • Participates in the 24/7 database systems support On-Call rotation and inter-departmental event coordination
  • Adheres to Information Technology Division standards
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in technical (STEM) field and two years of experience in technical role preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience as an Oracle DBA and optionally SQL Server DBA, with a proven track record of managing databases in production environments
  • Strong understanding of PL/SQL programming
  • Must have experience with core DBA skill sets including account admin, patching, tuning, backups/recovery, auditing, log reviews
  • Understanding of database, security, server, and network environments preferred
  • Experience with change management, incident tracking and version control
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others, use productive work methods, exercise sound judgment, and display initiative and innovation on the job
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office environment with constant computer use
  • Required regular on-call assistance outside of normal business hours
  • All employees are expected to present themselves in a professional manner in alignment with the financial services industry

WORK FROM HOME OPTION

  • Opportunity to work from home up to two days per week. Eligibility dependent upon factors detailed in PERA's Work from Home Policy.
