Measurement Lab Analyst (Finance)



Position Description

This position will be responsible for providing Daniel and ABB field Gas Chromatograph (GC) troubleshooting support and training. Other responsibilities will include performing gas analysis using various lab chromatographs, testing of field metrology equipment, and additional activities within the Kinder Morgan Measurement Lab- KMML. The individual must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism.

Daily activities include:

  • Providing technical support and assistance to Field Operations personnel with equipment such as Daniel/ABB gas chromatographs and other gas quality devices.
  • Gas analysis through the use of gas chromatographs and gas quality analyzers.
  • Testing, certification and calibration of measurement test equipment.
  • Other responsibilities include evaluation of new gas measurement / monitoring technology.
  • Enhancing / developing laboratory procedures.
  • Travel estimated from 0 to 10% of the time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.
  • Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects
  • Ability to take on new projects and shift priorities on short notice
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer
  • Employee needs to possess the ability to lift and or move objects weighing 50 lbs.
  • Employee should possess good mechanical and electronic skills.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
Position Requirements

Educational Requirements (minimal requirements and any additional education or training that would be helpful)
Associate's degree in a related technical subject such as I&E from an accredited institution or related military technical training- candidates with extensive experience (5+ years) and knowledge of the Measurement discipline may be considered without an Associate's degree.

Job Requirements (specific experience, skills, knowledge, certifications, licenses, competencies, working conditions)

  • Knowledge of GCs and gas quality analyzer operation and maintenance.
  • Operate electronic, pressure, and temperature test equipment (Fluke multi-meters, calibrators, Heise, Crystal pressure modules)
  • Ability to review GC analysis data, comparing to historical trends for acceptance into the measurement system.
  • Display skills in human relations and have the ability to work effectively and safely with fellow employees, customers and external contacts.
  • Possess logical, problem-solving, analytical skills.
  • Be able to maintain objectivity and make recommendations based on results.
  • Possess the ability to analyze problems from multiple perspectives and make sound recommendations.
  • Be detail oriented and have good record-keeping skills.
  • Be skilled in the use of software such Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong focus on safe work practices.
  • Able to complete work assignments with little supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge (above the minimum requirements; not required, but advantageous in this position)
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing the Daniel and/or the ABB online gas chromatographs.
  • Knowledge of metrology and natural gas industry experience is preferred. Knowledge of industry's regulatory compliance requirements and standards.
  • Operating a chromatograph and reviewing gas analysis data.
  • Advanced computer skills
